Pro/Am Teams Announced for U.S. Air Force Cycling Classic
International field will compete in 12 laps on 12.5km circuit
Arlington, VA [April 17, 2008]– Arlington Sports, Inc., the promoting organization for the United States Air Force Cycling Classic, is proud to announce the 14 teams competing in this year’s U.S. Air Force Cycling Classic to be held on Sunday, May 4, 2008. Competing teams will race in 12 laps on the new 12.5 km circuit. Kyle Wamsley, winner of the 2007 Crystal City Classic presented by the U. S. Air Force, will lead the Colavita Olive Oil/Sutter Home team in a field of over 100 riders.
Other renowned cyclists include Svein Tuft of the Symmetrics team, who was the overall winner of the Unione Cyclist Internationale (UCI) America Tour. His strong Canadian-based team will have the depth to support Tuft as they look to continue their success at these UCI events on the America Tour.
Pan Am Road Race champion and local favorite Martin Gilbert will lead his Kelly Benefits/Medifast team. Team sponsor Kelly Benefits is located in Baltimore and serves the greater Washington/Batimore region.
Top local Elite Amateur squad Battley Harley Davidson will field a strong team led by Russ Langley of Washington, D.C. Langley has been racing in the region for about 10 years, and has some key wins under his belt in two National Racing Calendar (NRC) level stage races, winning the prologues in both the Tour of Virginia and Fitchburg last year.
The full list of teams include: Ride Aid Pro Cycling presented by Shebell & Shebell, Team Type 1, Kelly Benefits/Medifast, Team Inferno, DLP Racing, Richmond Pro Cycling, Team R.A.C.E. Pro, Time Pro Cycling, Colavita Olive Oil/Sutter Home, Symmetrics, Successful Living, TOSHIBA-SANTO presented by Herbalife, U.S. Armed Services Cycling Team and Battley Harley Davidson.
The Men’s Pro/Am field will depart from the U.S. Air Force Memorial at 11:45am, as they make their way into Crystal City to then begin their 12 laps of racing. The complete roster is located on the website at www.USAirForceCyclingClassic.com.
Cycling enthusiast of all abilities will be able to participate in the Crystal Ride event, held prior to the Men’s Pro/Am race. The ride will begin and end at the U.S. Air Force Memorial, and participants will be able to ride on the 12.5 kilometer circuit through Crystal City that will challenge them to complete up to 100km. Following the ride, the three Service Academies will compete in a Team Time Trial format on the same circuit.
